Ogier is the new Rally Italia Sardegna leader |

Alghero (Italy) June 13, 2015. Sebastien Ogier and his co-driver Julien Ingrassia on a Volkswagen Polo R WRC took the lead of Rally Italia Sardegna. Tomorrow (Sunday, June 14) sixth round of the World Rally Championship will end at 13:30hrs with final arrive and podium in Alghero, after completing the third leg on the last four special stages. Second leg was the longest in the WRC history since 2002 (212.83 km of competing route). French reigning champion crew won SS11 and took the lead six test later and secured a quite night of dreams winning final SS19 thrilling Monte Lerno stage.
Ogier / Ingrassia now lead with 2min 13.6sec on Hayden Paddon. Hyundai's young Kiwi led the way constantly from the morning through the day up to SS16. Then his i20 WRC was slowed down but some gearbox issue and some little damages in the final part of the leg. Third in the overall standings is Citroen's Mads Otsberg, who on a DS3 WRC also won SS18. Fighting for podium are Thierry Neuville (Hyundai i20 WRC), fourth and fastest one in SS16, and Elfyn Evans with the first Ford Fiesta RS WRC, while Jari-Matti Latvala dropped from third to sixth after winning three stages in the morning but also experiencing several issue with punctures and dumpers on a Polo R WRC.
Great fight in WRC2 between eight-time Italian champion Paolo Andreucci on a Peugeot 208 T16 R5 and Ukrainian Yurii Protasov, the last passing Andreucci during the penultimate test of today on a Ford Fiesta RRC. The two are now seventh and eighth in the overall standings. Retired Dani Sordo (Citroen), Andreas Mikkelsen (Volkswagen), Robert Kubica, Ott Tanak and Italian Lorenzo Bertelli (Ford). Retired all WRC3 protagonists, who will be back in the race thanks to the Super Rally option. Third leg will end the rally on Sunday with a total of 48.80 kilometres in the Nurra zone which will host the Olmedo Monte Baranta test (11.30 km), close to Cala Flumini sea. This one (11.77 km) will be the final Power Stage which will be broadcasted live on tv channel Fox Sports 2 HD at 12:08. Finishing line in Alghero is scheduled at 13:30 hrs followed by podium and prize ceremony. |
